Type 2 Diabetes: Hormonal Causes

There is a guilty kind of stigma surrounding those who suffer from type 2 diabetes, most likely due to the fact that many consider the seemingly preventable disease to be primarily caused by a poor, sugary diet. However, dietary choices are not the only factor that plays a role in the development of type 2 diabetes. Hormones are also a very important factor that can affect one’s health. Insulin is the predominant hormone involved with regard to diabetes. Insulin resistance occurs when insulin, a hormone responsible for transporting glucose to the cell to be used as energy, is not being used properly in the body, causing the glucose to remain in the bloodstream. When the function of insulin is off balance, this in turn also throws other hormones off balance.
